This Department was established in 1976. Eminent personalities like Prof. T. Donappa, Prof. B. Purushottam, Prof. Y. Balagangadhara Rao, Prof. S. Gangappa etc. has contributed their services and led the Department in progressive way. Prof. T. Donappa former vice-chancellor of Telugu University was from this Dept., The Dept. of Telugu & O.L. has successfully conducted UGC Refresher Courses for six time. No.of UGC National Seminars were conducted by this Dept.. The Dept. is model to all Depts. In University because of the its research work.

Research Activities    
So far Dept. has produced 199 Ph.Ds and 185 M.Phils in Telugu as well as 09 Ph.Ds and 27 M.Phils in Sanskrit. The Dept. provided an opportunity to the affiliated college lecturers to guide research scholars.
Academic Achievements    
The faculty of the Dept. of Telugu & O.L. is participating actively in UGC National Seminars and publishing literary articles in various journals. In the same way the research scholars of telugu & O.L are also interestingly participating above said seminars M.A. Telugu, M.A. Sanskrit students are provided jobs in various schools and colleges after completing their course.
