The Department of Biotechnology was established in December, 1994 and running M.Sc Biotechnology and M.Sc. Nanobiotechnology programs. The Department of Biotechnology has been funded by UGC and DST-FIST and developed as one of the well-equipped self-sufficient department with good infrastructural facilities. DBT, New Delhi has sanctioned the DBT-National Bioinformatics Facility to this department.he department is offering research programs leading to M.Phil and Ph.D in Biotechnology. Infrastructural facilities: The Department of Biotechnology has got sufficient laboratory and class room space for various academic and research activities in different specialized areas such as, Plant tissue culture, Animal Cell Culture, Molecular Biology, Genetic Engineering, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and Bioinformatics.
Achievements
The Department of Biotechnology was established as an Advanced Research Center with an emphasis in various lead research areas, Plant Physiology, Molecular Biology, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Animal Cell Culture Technology, Microbial Technology and Plant Biotechnology areas. The department has published more than 456 research papers from inception and was sanctioned 4 Indian patents.
Research
The Department of Biotechnology has been funded by several Government organizations like UGC, DBT, DST-FIST and has research program under full time, part time and extra mural category with research work being carried out in various research areas such as Microbial Technology, Plant Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Nanobiotechnology, Phytochemistry and Fermentation Technology areas.
