A PROFILE OF AMBEDKAR MEMORIAL LIBRARY
(CENTRAL LIBRARY)

 About the Library:

It was upgraded as Acharya Nagarjuna University on 19th August, : Andhra University Post Graduate Centre established in the year 1967 and later 1976 and the A.U.P.G. Center Library collection of 18,900 documents as on that date became the nucleus for the Acharya Nagarjuna University Library. Later the library was renamed as “Dr. B.R. AMBEDKAR MEMORIAL LIBRARY”.

 Objective:

The main objective of the library is to support the educational and research programs of the Acharya Nagarjuna University and its affiliated colleges by providing access to information consistent with the present and anticipated educational and research functions of the University.

 Building:

The Library centrally located with an independent and spacious building consisting of 4 floors including basement hall with total user space of 3000 sq. mts...

All current Periodicals & Arts, Humanities, Law and Social Science, Back Volumes of Journals and Government Reports published from the year 2000.

:

Back Volumes of Science Periodicals, Govt. Reports up to the year 1999, Census Reports, Theses and Documentation Centre.

 Advisory Committee :

The Library Advisory Committee consists of Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Deans of faculties, Principal of the University College and University Librarian as members. The Vice-Chancellor is the Ex-Officio Chairman and the Librarian is the member Secretary of the committee.

Functions of the Library Advisory Committee:
a) Allocation of funds to various departments
b) Collection Development
c) Implementation of modern techniques in the library to satisfy the needs of the users.

 

 Collection:

In accordance with the objectives of the Acharya Nagarjuna University the library aims to develop a comprehensive collection of documents useful for the students, faculty and research community of the University. The rich and valuable collection built over a period of about three decades has some rare reference materials and several important journals. This reservoir of knowledge on a conservative estimate worth over SEVEN cores of rupees. The annual budget of the library is about 65 Lakhs (2009-10) of which subscription towards periodicals alone is about 45 Lakhs. The total holdings of the library exceeds 1, 23,200 documents.

  Competitive Exam Reference Cell (CERC):

The Library Reference Section is equipped with a Separate Competitive Cell for the use of Students who are appearing for the Competitive Examinations being conducted by State/Central Governments.

This section also helps the students in preparing TOFEL, IELTS & GRE examinations by providing Books, Cassettes, and CDS.

  CD Library:

CD/DVDs are available on Population Studies, Management & Commerce Subjects, Communication Skills, Science and Social Studies Subjects etc.,

Photocopying of the Library material is being provided to all the Library users at nominal price.

Teachers, Scholars and Students are allowed to browse the net for their academic purpose.
Book Bank Service :

Books supplied by Social Welfare Department ,Govt. of Andhra Pradesh are available for lending to SC and ST students only.

Library Orientation: :
As a part of the Library routine, Library Staff conducts orientation program to the newly admitted students.
Earn While Learn Programe::
‘Earn while Learn’ program was inaugurated by Prof..V.S.L.V. Prasad, NAAC Director, in the year 2003. Under this program nearly 30 students are benefited every academic year, by getting the remuneration to work in this Library for sorting of books, for pasting of Bay Guides and Gang Way Guides etc., in between 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. every day.
